Companies aren’t always as supportive as they could be when employees have to take time to look after a family member with a health condition. That’s why many family caregivers are creating their own solutions to balance elder care and work.

An article posted on Next Avenue describes how four different family caregivers are coping. “In lieu of employer programs to assist them, (they’re) working reduced schedules, using personal time to assist their parents, sacrificing sleep, and in some cases, educating their employers about what they need.”

The article talks about the challenges faced by employees in an American context. For information about what to be aware of if you’re living and working in Canada, check out the following articles.
