Service Description: Offers several support groups designed to assist individuals with brain injuries in different aspects of their recovery and adjustment

Cognitive Development Group
: focuses on helping participants develop and enhance their cognitive skills * Participants engage in activities and complete cognitive-oriented materials presented by a staff member * group is designed to be motivating and dynamic, fostering a positive atmosphere for cognitive growth

Adjustment Group: The group meets every second Thursday 11-12 noon at the main office (214-211 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa) * aims to promote cognitive development and social/emotional adjustment for individuals recovering from and living with the effects of an acquired brain injury * Participants share experiences and actively discuss educational materials in a non-judgmental and non-competitive environment, facilitated by a staff member

Healing HeART: group uses art as a therapeutic form of communication, allowing individuals to express thoughts, emotions, memories, and feelings that might be difficult to articulate verbally * Participants engage in symbolic self-expression through various art forms * workshops are therapeutic but not led by art therapists, the focus is on self-expression without interpretation from a counselor

Anger Management
: 16-week program * The program explores ways to express anger constructively, debunks common myths about anger, and teaches effective skills and strategies for improving communication and reducing anger

Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Participants must have a diagnosis of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), which includes both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries but excludes neurodegenerative disorders

Participants must be 18 years or older ( those aged 16 to 18 may be considered under special circumstances)

Participants should be motivated to increase their independence and express interest in participating in the program

Individual assessments, such as the INTER RAI Community Health Assessment, are required for new applicants, especially those dealing with addiction or significant behavioural/psychiatric challenges
