Service Description:
  • Serves and supports off-reserve high school students from member First Nation communities attending the secondary school education system outside of their community
  • Aims to prepare youth for full and meaningful participation in society by providing the best possible educational opportunities, and making student success and their safety a priority
  • Provides the following support and services to First Nations students attending high school away from their home community:
    • Case management services for each student
    • Social and spiritual support
    • Encouragement in academic achievement
    • Individual counselling in areas students might be struggling with such as homesickness and socialization issues
    Boarding Home Program
    • Coordinates arrangements to place students attending high school in Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Dryden and other communities with a suitable boarding home
    • Provides applications for families willing to become host boarding homes and students requiring a boarding placement
    Fees: None
    Application: Services are delivered to community members at the local level (Band Office)
    Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Must belong to one of the member First Nations within the Shibogama First Nations Council territory
