Tips for staying cool from ladies of The View
July 21, 2011, 12:31 PM
What are you doing to escape the heat today? Here's what the ladies of ABC’s
The View
have been doing to stay cool: Joy Behar keeps her bra in the fridge when she’s not wearing it, Whoopi Goldberg soaks a washcloth with Sea Breeze astringent and wraps it around her neck, Sherri Shepherd strips down to her birthday suit every chance she gets, Elisabeth Hasselbeck draws all the curtains and gives her kids spray bottles with water so that they can spritz themselves as required. Of course, they also rely on air conditioning and fans (not of the audience kind) to keep them cool.
This is a heat wave with reach given that
The View
comes out of New York City.
Young children and the elderly are especially vulnerable when temperatures soar to such ridiculous heights. Those of you caring for someone who doesn’t have air conditioning may want to look for cooling centres in your community or consider dropping them off at the nearest mall or library to wait out the hottest hours of the day. Or maybe they could spend some time with a neighbour, friend or family member?
If your care recipient doesn't appear to be managing the heat, don’t hesitate to seek medical advice. Call you doctor’s office,
Telehealth
at 1-866-797-0000 or head to your nearest
urgent care or emergency room department
.
And here's an idea I'd like to float: We have snow days when cold weather conditions overtake our communities, why don’t we have
extreme heat days
? Yes, the dangers and risks are different, but they’re just as significant. Maybe it’s just me...
In the meantime, stay cool, drink lots of water and seriously consider cereal for dinner tonight.
